Grover Knight

August 3, 1923 — December 14, 2009

Grover Lee Knight, 86, of Cartersville died Monday, December 14, 2009 at Cartersville Medical Center. Born August 3, 1923 he was the son of the late Wesley Payne Knight and the late Julia Haney Knight. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jerry Knight; sisters, Esther Bowman, and Flora Sweat; and his brother John Knight.



Grover served his country in the United States Army in World War II in the 385th artillery battalion. He worked for Coca-Cola as a sales representative for twenty-eight years until his retirement. Grover was a member of Atco Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, watching the Braves, carpentry, and spending time outdoors. Grover enjoyed being with his dogs Tarbaby and Ladd, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.



Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Elsa Bearden Knight; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Kipp Hoffman; his daughter-in-law, Debbie Geurin Knight; grandsons, Kipp Hoffman, Ryan Knight, and Adam Knight; numerous nieces and nephews; and good friend, Tammy Bennett.



Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Atco Baptist Church with the Rev. Marc Curlee, Dr. Wayne Hambrick, Dr. Carl Bilue, and Rev. Charles Ivey officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens with full military honors provided by American Legion Carl Boyd Post #42.



Serving as active pallbearers will be Gene Bunch, Bobby Bannister, Charles Anderson, Fuzz Cornett, Jimmy Morris, Joel Layton, and Lloyd Buchanan. Serving as honorary pallbearers are the Fellowship Sunday School Class, the Deacons of Atco Baptist Church, and the Euharlee Police Department. These gentlemen are asked to be at the funeral home by 12:15 on Wednesday.



The family will receive friends from 5 � 9 p.m. Tuesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
