Gwendolyn Chaffin

Mrs. Ellen P. Chaffin, age 72, formerly of 3 Blackhawk Circle, Rome, Georgia passed away in Gainesville, Georgia on February 15, 2008.

Mrs. Chaffin was born in Barber County, AL on May 16, 1935, daughter of the late Frank Barto Pierce and Gwendolyn Boone Pierce. She was a member of the West Rome United Methodist Church since 1977 and had been very active in the community and Charter Member of the Rome-Floyd Chapter of the National Federation of Republican Women. Prior to her retirement Mrs. Chaffin was a third grade school teacher for over 30 years in the Rome City School system. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. Mrs. Chaffin was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Chaffin, to whom she married in 1975; and a brother, Paul Pierce, Sr.

Mrs. Chaffin is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, James R. "Jim" and Dona Crumbley of Dacula, GA, Franklin "Frank" and Dawn Crumbley of Acworth, GA, and Steve and Holly Chaffin of Rome, GA; seven grandchildren, Chad Crumbley, Casey Crumbley, Shane Crumbley all of Dacula, GA, Shane Crumbley, Lauren Crumbley, Dylan Crumbley both of Acworth, GA, Chance Chaffin, and Emory Chaffin both Rome, GA; and great-granddaughter, Jordyn Hoffman of Dacula, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Chaffin will be held Monday, February 18, 2008 at 2:00 pm at the West Rome United Methodist Church with Mrs. Barbara Davis and Rev. Les Connell officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and include Chad Crumbley, Casey Crumbley, Shane Crumbley, Randall Jackson, Paul Pierce, Jr., Emory Chaffin and Dylan Crumbley.
