Rev. Wilda Ruth Mackey Hackney, age 76, of Rome, GA, died Wednesday, August 11, 2004, in a local hospital.Mrs. Hackney was born in Birmingham, AL, on November 21, 1927, daughter of the late Faris Mitchell and Nina Watkins Mackey Mitchell. She was very well-loved, knowledgeable about the Bible, license with the America Evangelist Association, and very helpful. Rev. Hackney pastored Christian Temple Church and was associated with WZOT Radio Broadcast in Rockmart. She was thought of as an angel here on earth by her granddaughter, April. She retired from NH Paperworks and was a retired minister. Rev. Hackney was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mr. Paul Joseph Hackney; sister, Joyce Web, brother, Joe Mackey, and son-in-law, Homer Blankenship.Survivors include her husband, George Marshall Hackney of Rome; two daughters and son-in-law, Ruth and Jerome Reece of Cartersville and Naomi June Blankenship of Rome; three grandchildren and their husbands, April and John Brooks Jr. of Rome, Theresa Ann and Daryl Mclamb of Rome, and Rebecca Diane Carroll of San Diego, CA; great-grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth and Maggie Mae Brooks of Rome; three brothers, Faris Mitchell, Jr. of Florida, Tom Mackey of Florida, and James Mackey of Florida; and two sisters, Betty Gann of Florida and Pauline Shaw of Florida.Funeral services for Rev. Hackney will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, August 14, 2004, in the Huffaker Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin Glass and Rev. Richie Franklin officiating. Mrs. Hackney will lie-in state at the church from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Old Antioch Church Cemetery.Mrs. Hackney will remain at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Friday) evening from 7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. At other hours they will be at the residence on 31 Wynnie Road, Rome, GA.The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet at Huffaker Road Baptist Church at 2:15 P.M.
