Harold Barnes

Mr. Harold Alvin Barnes, age 79, of 22 Rollingwood Drive, Rome passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at a local hospital.Mr. Barnes was born on July 22, 1926 in Cherokee, Alabama, the son of the late Homer Barnes and Electra McCoy Barnes. He had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County for the past 51 years and was a member of Garden Lakes Baptist Church and of the Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class. Prior to retirement he was employed with General Electric for 33 years and was a supervisor for the latter part of his tenure. Mr. Barnes was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Vela Mae Waddell.Survivors include his loving wife, Kathleen Money Barnes, to whom he was married April 26, 1947; three sons and daughters in-law, Jimmy and Jeanette Barnes, Rome, Michael and Jerre Barnes , Marietta and Tommy and Vickie Barnes, Cartersville; two brothers, Hobert and Elvin Barnes, Cherokee County, AL; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Melanie, Elizabeth, Christina, Hannah, Stephanie, Braden and Katie Ann Barnes.Funeral services for Mr. Barnes will be held at Garden Lakes Baptist Church on Friday, February 17, 2006 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Drew Corbett and Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.Mr. Barnes will lie in-state at the church from 1:00 pm until the funeral hour Friday.The family will receive friends at Garden Lakes Baptist Church tonight (Thursday) from 7:00 until 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Garden Lakes Baptist Church Building Fund.Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church on Friday by 1:30 pm and include, Harold Brock, Billy Tomlinson, Bob Jones, Herman Lawrence, Leroy Slater, and Willie Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class.The Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home has charge of the services for Mr. Harold Alvin Barnes.
