Harold Cantrell

Mr. Harold Clifford �Buddy� Cantrell, age 83, of Rome, GA passed away Saturday, August 22, 2009.



Mr. Cantrell was born in Floyd County, GA on May 2, 1926 the son of the late Earl and Dicie Cantrell. In addition to his parents Mr. Cantrell was preceded in death by his wife of forty-eight years, Virginia Jones Cantrell; and sisters, Ruth Litton, Carden and Anita Cantrell.



Buddy joined the United States Naval Air Force in 1944 proudly serving his country in World War II and the Korean War until 1952. Buddy returned to Rome and was employed by General Electric where he worked his way up to management. He retired after thirty-eight years of service. Mr. Cantrell was a long time member, usher, and catechist of St. Mary�s Catholic Church. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed bird hunting, gardening, and golf (achieving six holes in one). Buddy lived a good life and was devoted to his wife and children. He had a big heart that could no longer keep up with his zest for life. Buddy we are saddened to see your journey end.



Survivors include his children, Karen and Mark Ewing, Michael and Kathy Cantrell, and Virginia and Thomas Rowe; grandchildren, Jonathan Phillips, Christopher Rowe, Joshua and Ethan Ewing, Kathryn Rogers, and Caleb Cantrell; great-grandchildren, Gavin Lance and Nicholas Rowe; brother, Wayne Cantrell; and a sister-in-law, Gene Cantrell. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.



Funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 28, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. in the St. Mary�s Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Deacon Stuart Neslin officiating and the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.



The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home.
