Harold Meyers

November 1, 1926 — February 25, 2009

MSG Harold Richard Meyers �Harry�, age 82, of Rome, GA, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at his residence.



Mr. Meyers was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 1, 1926 the son of the late Martin Meyers and Florence Semon Christ. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War and made a career serving his country for over thirty years. While serving in Istanbul, Turkey he met and married his wife, Jeanine Virginia Mercieca Meyers. They have shared over fifty six years happily together. After retiring from the Army he earned a degree from Berry College and taught industrial technology in Bartow County for ten years. During retirement he enjoyed stamp collecting, volunteering at his church, Holy Trinity Lutheran, and spending time with family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Meyers was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Meyers and Richard Carroll.



Survivors include his wife, Jeanine Virginia Mercieca Meyers to whom he was married on September 10, 1952 in Istanbul, Turkey; a son Steven Mark Meyers and spouse, Patsy of Rome; two daughters and their spouses, Barbara Meyers Dewey (Roger) and Teresa Meyers Patterson (Randy) all of Rome; grandchildren; Jeanine Austin of Atlanta, GA, Jennifer Dewey of Atlanta, GA, James Austin and his wife, Kira of Rome, Matthew, Molly, Maggie, and Maria Meyers, and Rudy and Harry Patterson all of Rome.



Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Pastor Jack Karch officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.



The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until the funeral hour in the Oaknoll Chapel.



The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Oaknoll Chapel on Saturday by 1:30 P.M.: Steven Meyers, Matthew Meyers, Randy Patterson, Rudy Patterson, Roger Dewey, and James Austin. The honorary pallbearer will be Jeff Brown.
