Mrs. Hazel Morgan Watson, age 91, died Friday November 5, 2010 in Columbia, S.C. where she has resided for the past five years.
Mrs. Watson was born in Cave Spring, GA on May 20, 1919, the daughter of the late John Morgan and Bessie Garmon Morgan. She was a member of the North Broad Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rome Fire Department. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her strong faith, her gentle loving manner and for her delightful sense of humor. In addition to her parents Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her husband Dewey Watson, the former Assistant Fire Chief of Rome and by a daughter, Patricia Watson King.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Watson and his wife Vivian of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Lori Watson Dowdell of Columbia, S.C., Beth Watson Crawford of Franklin, TN., Jana Watson Langhals of Summerville, S.C., Tonya King Barkley of Sumter, S.C., Brian King of Athens, GA. and Karen King Bell of Crestview, FL. Seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home with Dr. Tony Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be firefighters of the Rome City Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the North Broad Baptist Church, 1309 North Broad Street, Rome, GA. 30161.
