Helen Frye

June 8, 1930 — August 15, 2012

Helen Virginia Guyton Frye passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her daughter Janice Frye-Johnson, son-in-law Michael Douglas Johnson, and three grandkids. She was very proud of Lynda Andrea, Nancy Regina, and Michael Donald Johnson, and spent the last seven months of her life with the family in Richmond, Virginia. She joins her mother, Berta Bradshaw Guyton; father, Walter Hill Guyton; and brother, Claud Guyton in the afterlife, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. In more recent years she especially enjoyed and was blessed by the company of longtime family friend Jack Dunton, and cousins Catherine Edwards and Donna Bryant. New neighbors Bill and Callie Overstreet, Larry Rezek and Wendy Wiberg and daughter Zoe, were welcome additions to her life in Richmond. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Frye worked many years for GE in Rome, GA, and for Square D and a publishing company in Atlanta before retiring. She had attended Berry Schools in Rome, and was a member of Mensa International in her younger years. She had 2 poems in the International Poetry Show in New Orleans in 1955, and enjoyed genealogy, history, and quilting. She had volunteered at the Bartow County Genealogical Society before becoming ill, and was a devoted caregiver for her parents and brother in their final years.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with The Reverend Phillip Looney officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a local hospice group, orphanage, or food bank. Mrs. Frye supported Calvary Children's Home and Must Ministries for many years, and hospice was a blessing in Georgia and Virginia.
