Helen Whatley

November 20, 1930 — March 15, 2009

Ms. Helen Ruth Whatley, age 78, of Rome, GA, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, in a local hospital.



Ms. Whatley was born in Jackson County, AL, on November 20, 1930, the daughter of the late T.R. �Spud� Pockrus and Mary Annie Elizabeth O�Neal Pockrus. She moved to Rome in 1996 from Woodville, AL. Ms. Whatley was an avid needle worker and won several blue ribbons for her talents. Also, she had a love for music. In addition to her parents Ms. Whatley was preceded in death by a son, Michael David Whatley.



Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Eddie Hamilton of Rome; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Janet Pockrus of Woodville, AL; a sister, Dorothy Barron of Pensacola, FL; an aunt, Ruby O�Neal Stewart of Scottsboro, AL; two uncles, Melvin O�Neal of Nederland, TX and David O�Neal of Orange, TX; six nephews; and a niece. Several cousins also survive.



Graveside and interment services will be held Wednesday March 18, 2009, at 2 P.M. in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Danny Womack officiating.



The family will receive friends Tuesday March 17, 2009 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home.



The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet at Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home by 1:30 p.m. March 18, 2009 and include; Benny Berry, Ray Berry, Mark Brown, Brian Blair, James Blanton and Jason Blanton.
