Henry Freeman

September 17, 1932 — October 31, 2019

Henry Larkin Freeman Jr., 87, of Cartersville passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at his residence.

Hank, as he was known by most, was born on September 17, 1932, in Shannon, Georgia, to Jennie and Henry L. Freeman Sr., as the youngest of 4 children. A graduate of Model High School, Hank served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1980, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant with over 7000 hours accumulated flight time in C-124s, C-123s, and C-141s. He was a veteran of Viet Nam, serving from 1968-1969 at Phan Rang AFB in South Viet Nam. After his retirement from the Air Force, Hank worked for Lockheed in Marietta, GA, for 19 years, working jobs including the factory floor and in the training department teaching others about heat treat and how to use a cherry picker. Following his retirement from Lockheed he worked for a number of years with friends at VersaPharm before enjoying retirement and travel.

A former member of Wrightstown Baptist Church in Wrightstown, NJ, Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta, and First Baptist Church Woodstock, Hank was a man with a servant's heart. Active in church throughout his life and serving in many different roles including as a deacon for many years, his passion was music. He loved to sing in the choir and was a faithful choir member wherever he was, even serving as choir director in Wrightstown. Hank also actively participated in the Builders for Christ, going on a number of mission trips with the Noonday Baptist Association.

Hank married Nancy Joyce on December 18, 1953, in Shannon. The couple were working on their 66th year of marriage. They were able to enjoy traveling together for a number of years after his retirement. Hank and Nancy had 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Paul Freeman of Shannon and Arnold Freeman of Smyrna; and his sister Edith Freeman Yarbrough of Shannon. Survivors include his wife Nancy Joyce Freeman of Cartersville; his daughter Kathy Freeman Thiessen of Mt Holly, NJ; his sons Kenneth Freeman of Cartersville and Robert Freeman of Dallas; as well as his 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
