Henry Carlton Ray, 66, of Adairsville passed away Thursday, September 4, 2008 at his daughter�s residence. Born November 11, 1941 in Calhoun, he was the son of the late John Henry Ray and the late Eria Ethel Millsap Ray. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Estelle Woody Ray, and his sister, Geneva Ledford.
Henry was a veteran of the United States Army who retired from active duty after 25 years of service. He served two tours of duty in Viet Nam and constantly talked about his favorite duty station in Colorado. Henry loved fishing and camping especially in the Tennessee mountains.
Survivors include his children, Ann Howard of Adairsville, Donald Ray of Cartersville, Patricia Gallegos of Rockmart, Steve Ray of Cartersville, Janie Blancher of Ellijay, Keesha Rezuko of Pine Log, and Tanna Lanham of Cartersville; his siblings, Charlene James, Jane Grier and Sue Turner, all of Cartersville, and Donald Ray of Alabama; 24 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the City of Praise Worship Center, 406 S. Tennessee St., Cartersville with Pastor Jeff Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery with full military honors. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be Scott Hufstetler, Braxton West, Kenneth Tant, Eric Ford, Gene Autrey, Jerry Ray, and Curtis Grier. Pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:15 p.m. Sunday.
