Herbert Smith

Mr. Herbert R. Smith, 83, of Cartersville, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Townsend Park & Rehab. Born in Ducktown, Tennessee on March 29, 1931, he was the son of the late Williams Rans Smith and Ruth Ann Owens Smith.
Herbert was a member and Deacon of Oak Grove Baptist Church and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company with 46 years of service. He was a veteran having served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. In addition to his parents, he is preceded by his wife of 56 years, Katie Mae Law Smith; his son, Douglas Smith; his sisters, Betty Mosley and Winnie Jo Levine; and his brother, Jimmy Smith.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, David Smith (Tamra) of Cartersville; his grandchildren, Felicia and Wen Liou of Port Charlotte, Florida, Michelle and John Cannon of Rockmart, Dustin Smith and Aubree Smith both of Cartersville; his brothers, Bill Smith of Ducktown, TN, Bobby Smith of Cleveland, GA, Don Smith of Cleveland, GA and Kenneth and Jean Smith of Ducktown; and his sister-in-law, Christine Smith of Cartersville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 15, 2015 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with The Reverend Benny Thomas officiating. A private interment will follow. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dustin Smith, Russell Hale, Ricky, Steve, Rodney and Kevin Law.
