Herman House

Mr. Herman Garrard House, age 73, of 333 Old Freeman Ferry Rd, Rome, GA died Sunday, October 17, 2004 at a local hospital.Mr. House was born in Floyd County on March 5, 1931 son of the late William Melvin and Bertie Lanier House. He attended Rome Boy's High School and employed with Georgia Power Company for 34 years until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of North Broad Baptist Church and was a veteran in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 serving in the Korean War. He enjoyed his post retirement work by transporting vehicles for various local car dealerships developing a strong camaraderie with fellow retired drivers. He spent most of his time loving on his three year old grandson. Mr. House is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Melvin House Jr. and U.L. House; and a sister Norene McMichen.Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Sims House to whom he was married on December 23, 1956 of Rome; son, Stephen Garrard House of Rome ; special grandson Parker Garrard House and several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral Services for Mr. Herman Garrard House will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at North Broad Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Brooks and Rev. Harold Jones officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery with the Honor Guard of Shanklin –Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion in charge of graveside rites.Mr. House will remain at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 – 9:00 PM and at other hours will be at the residence, 333 Old Freeman Ferry Rd. House will be carried on Wednesday to North Broad Baptist Church at 1:30 PM to lie-in –state until the funeral hour.Active pallbearers are asked to meet at North Broad Baptist Church at 2 PM on Wednesday: Lee Roy Minshew Jr., Tony Bell, Gene Selman, Sammy Langley, Randy Charles, and Jim Bell. The Honorary pallbearers will be Emmett Love, Ira Hood, F.C. Dougherty, Maurice Gann, P.R. Perry, Red Postell, Charles House, H. Langford, Sonny McDonald, Jerry Blankenship, and C.C.
