Mr. Alpha "Hildon" Baker, age 76, of 372 Turkey Mountain Rd., Armuchee, GA, died Thursday, October 13, 2005, in a local hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mr. Baker, was born on May 16, 1929, to the late Hinton Baker and Lena Mae Sentell Baker. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp where he served as a Sergeant and was stationed in Pearl Harbor during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Baker was a member, ordained deacon, and participant of the adult choir of New Armuchee Baptist Church. Prior to retirement he was affiliated with Inland Container for 35 years. Mr. Baker was a loving and devoted husband and father. He had also been a proud grandfather who volunteered as a football coach for the Armuchee Peewee and Mite teams. Mr. Baker had taken great enjoyment in his hobbies of gardening, woodworking, leather carving and ceramics. He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Harold Perry and Carl King.Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Kathryn Perry Baker of Armuchee, to whom he married on July 26, 1950; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and David Burns, and Carol and Ricky Mull all of Armuchee; five grandsons and two granddaughters-in-law, Brad and Kristen Burns of Chapel Hill, NC, Kevin and Ashley Burns of Rome, GA, Jeffrey Burns of Atlanta, GA, Jason Mull of Dalton, GA, and Greg Mull of Armuchee; and one sister, Christine King of Rome; one sister-in-law, Fay Perry. Several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mr. Baker will be held this (Saturday) afternoon in the New Armuchee Baptist Church at 4 PM with Rev. Edward E. Holsomback and Rev. Keith Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in the Floyd Springs Baptist Cemetery.Mr. Baker will lie in-state in the New Armuchee Baptist Church where the family will receive friends this (Saturday) afternoon from 2 PM until the service hour. At other hours the family may be contacted at the residence.Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church by 3:30 PM today (Saturday) and include Brad Burns, Kevin Burns, Jeffrey Burns, Jason Mull, Greg Mull, Chris Perry, Randy King, and Rena Perry.
