Mr. Homer Calvin (Tom) Thomas, Jr., age 78, of Dallas, GA and formerly of Rome, died Thursday, May 20, 2004 at his residence following an extended illness.Mr. Thomas was born in Jackson County, Alabama, July 7, 1925, son of the late Homer Calvin Thomas, Sr., and Lois Maynor Thomas and had resided in Rome and Floyd County for many years and was a veteran of WW II having served in the United States Navy as an aviation boatswain's mate aboard the USS Hancock. He retired from Piggly Wiggly as a produce supervisor after 30 years of service. After his retirement he was associated with Sam's Club before moving to Dallas to make his home in April of 2003. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church where he was an active member of the Men's Bible Sunday School Class and the Sanctuary Choir. After moving to Dallas, Mr. Thomas enjoyed attending activities at the Paulding County Senior Center and the community center of the Amberly Apartments where he was a resident. He had many interests and hobbies, but his love was growing plants. He was preceded in death by a daughter Emily Hope Thomas and by a brother, Mack Powell Thomas.Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Era (Ebbie) Kirby to whom he was married January 13, 1944, a daughter and son in law, Yvonne & Robert Jenkins of Dallas, a son and daughter in law, Homer Calvin Thomas, III & Elizabeth Ann Stoehr Thomas of Atlanta, grandchildren, Robert Christopher and Cindy Lee Jenkins of Chamblee, GA, Amy Jenkins VanHouten and John VanHouten of Dallas, GA, Jay and Jenny Jenkins of Norcross, GA, sisters, Guelda Thomas Thornton and Dell Thomas Butts of Chattanooga, TN, several nieces and nephews also survive.Memorial services for Mr. Homer Calvin (Tom) Thomas, Jr. will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 23, 2004 at the Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip May and Rev.
