Hugh Maurice Phipps, a beloved resident of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16th, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on March 8th, 1938, in Alcoa, Tennessee, Hugh lived a life full of love, service, and dedication to his family and community.
Hugh proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, embodying the values of honor and commitment throughout his life. After his military service, he pursued a long and fulfilling career with Delta Airlines, where he was known for his hard work and integrity.
A simple man with a passion for sports, Hugh was an avid supporter of golf, baseball, and especially the Tennessee Volunteers football team. He never missed an opportunity to cheer on any Alcoa High sports team, staying connected to his roots and community.
Hugh was preceded in death by his loving parents, George and Mildred Phipps, his cherished spouse, Glenda Phipps, his children, Robin Gibson and Mike Phipps, and numerous siblings. His legacy continues through his surviving family: his grandson Billy Gibson; daughter-in-law Stacey Phipps; his other grandchildren, Melanie Phipps, Joshua Phipps (Kit), and Hannah Hall (William); his great-grandchildren, Maci Grace Hall, Luci Kathryn Hall, Shea Allen, Eli Romero, and brother Robert Phipps (Leigh).
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Hugh’s life at a visitation on Saturday, January 24th, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cartersville, GA. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:00 pm at the same location.
