It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hugh Earl Wilson. Born on Thursday, August 20th, 1936, in Cartersville, Georgia, he passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9th, 2026, in his lifelong hometown at the age of 89.
Hugh was a devoted and loving grandfather to Maegan Wilson (Brendan Glover) and Aubree Smith (Cody Martinez), and a cherished great-grandfather to Tinsleigh Hart, Dakota Martinez, and Elliot Martinez. He is survived by his dear sisters, Sue Bennett and Geraldine Holmes. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie Joyce Wilson, his daughter Tamra Smith, his parents Walter and Mary Wilson, and several brothers and sisters.
A dedicated employee, Hugh retired after 38 years and 8 months of service from General Electric, where he worked in assembly. He was also a proud veteran, having served in the United States Army. Outside of his professional commitments, Hugh found joy and peace in gardening, meticulously maintaining a pristine yard. His faith was central to his life, and he was a committed deacon at Oakland Heights Baptist Church.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cartersville, GA. The funeral service will be held the following day, Thursday, January 15th, 2026, at 11:00 am at the same location. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
