Jack Verlin Stephens, 81, of Cartersville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Viola Linderman Stephens; two brothers, Charles Stephens and Robert Jewel Stephens; four sisters, Pearlie Hubbard of Chattanooga, Bessie Simmonds, Ruby Stover, and Diana Stuart all of Rome, Georgia.
Mr. Stephens was born April 28, 1930 in Polk County, Tennessee, and was the son of the late Charles Stephens and the late Amanda Hayes Stephens. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, where he had been in the Ministry for several years, pastoring in Canton, Hickory Flat, Rome, Calhoun, and Lindale, Georgia. He lived and worked in Rome before moving to Cartersville and was retired from Burlington/Galey and Lord, Shannon. He was also a member of the Bartow County Senior Choir, served as the group chaplain at Zena Drive for two years and the Golden Tones for ten years. He really enjoyed music, singing, playing his guitar and mandolin.
He is survived by his wife of thirty four years, Marilyn Minter Stephens; two daughters, Allison (Johnny) Bailey and Janice Williams of Rome; two step-daughters, Rhonda (Mike) Kuwamoto of San Leandro, California, and Phyllis Minter of Colorado Springs, Colorado; stepson, Steven Minter of Marietta; three granddaughters, Stacy Minter (Jake) of Sherwood, Atlanta, Stefanie (Darren) Hicks of Austell, and Audrey Miklitsch of Colorado, Springs, Colorado; one great-granddaughter, Abigail Hicks, of Austell; a special sister and brother-in-law, Vonscylle and Howell Wilson; a sister-in-law, Faye Stephens; and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by loving family pets, Bridgette, Bailee and Que-tip.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2012 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Reverend Doug Stephenson, Reverend Dewey Lolley and Reverend Sam Allen officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery in Rome.
Serving as pallbearers will be William Cochran, Darren Hicks, Anthony Jeffords, Roland Gene Jeffords, Jeff Morrill and John Stinnette.
The family will receive friends from 4 � 9 p.m., Wednesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville.
