James Atkins

Mr. James Calvin �J.C.� Atkins age 81, of Rome, GA, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009 in a local hospital.



Mr. Atkins was born in Floyd County, GA on March 18, 1928, the son of the late John L. Atkins and Susie Ables Atkins. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, but attended Unity Baptist Church. Mr. Atkins retired from Plant Bowen after several years of service. After retirement he owned and operated a lawn maintenance service. In addition to his parents Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by four brothers, Billy Atkins, Melvin Atkins, Richard Atkins, and Dock Atkins and a sister, Myrtle Weeks.



Survivors include two sons, Louie Atkins and Jimmy Atkins both of Rome; two adopted sons, Johnathan Wilson and Skyler Wilson both of Rome; two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty Jean and James Ayers of Summerville, GA and Vera Sue Foster of Centre, AL; a granddaughter, Melissa Atkins of Rome; four step-grandchildren, David Ayers, Doug Ayers, Danny Ayers, and Dennis Ayers; and a brother, Bobby Atkins of the Texas Valley Community.



A Celebration of Life for Mr. Atkins will be held Thursday, October 15, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Studdard officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.



The family will receive friends Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until the funeral hour in the Oaknoll Chapel and at other hours may be contacted at the son�s (Louie Atkins) residence, 12 Westover Estates.



The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Oaknoll Chapel by 10:30 A.M.: Johnathan Wilson, Skyler Wilson, Dennis Ayers, Paul Reynolds, Neal Brannon, and Nicky Brannon.
