James "Jim" Brown

August 10, 1952 — March 1, 2025

Mr. James "Jim" Brown, 72, of Dallas, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

Born in Camden, South Carolina, on August 10, 1952, he was the son of the late Willie Brown, Sr. and Naomi Spann Brown. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Brown-Brown; and his siblings: Steve Ellis (Mary Ann), Teat Brown, Cora Brown, Celina "Dottie" Mosley, Nora "Bubba" Burns, Johnny Brown, "Big Willie" Style Brown Jr., Amelia Brown-Parker, and Eugene Brown (Owana).

Jim's educational journey began in Camden, SC, where he attended Camden High School. His class was the first to integrate what had previously been an all-white school, a pioneering step that set a trailblazing path for him and his classmates. During his high school years, he worked as a grocery clerk. After graduation, he moved to Atlanta, where he worked for the City of Atlanta as a Tech Support specialist in General Services. His career then took him to New York, where he attended New York Tech (NYT). Upon graduation, he began his career with Reader's Digest as a Data Technician before moving to Lockheed Martin as an IT Specialist. At Lockheed, he helped design websites and played a key role in the technical support for the development of EasyPass, which is widely used today.

An ironic twist of fate brought Jim and Shirley together again. Although they met in high school and attended prom together, they didn't date at the time. Decades later, they reconnected, married, and moved to Atlanta. Jim later landed a contract position with the CDC and, after that, served as the IT Director for the State of Georgia's Board of Education. He continued to enjoy his work until his recent retirement.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, and son, and he loved his family with all his heart. He also had a great passion for golf and the New York Knicks. Jim was known for his love of telling corny jokes and his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone who would listen. His signature line was always "Hey, come here!" followed by one of his memorable speeches or stories. He made everyone feel special and heard, and his charm and humor will be deeply missed.

Jim is survived by his children, Myles Brown, Lenny Brown, and Justin Brown (Juanita); his brother, Clyde Brown (Debbie) of Yonkers, NY; his sisters, Ruth Brown of Pelham, NY, and Thelma Brown Hope (Jasper) of Columbia, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025, in the chapel of Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
