James Morris

James Robert "Jimmy" Morris, 80, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Cartersville Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born September 4, 1936 in Cartersville, Ga to the late Lorena McCollum Morris and Robert O. Morris.
He received his high school diploma from Cartersville High School in 1958 while serving his country for six years in the U.S Army, and in Germany for 3 years. After returning home, he worked in the finance business, and then was employed by the Cartersville Police Department, later becoming Deputy Sheriff for Bartow County where he was shot in the line of duty. After his mother passed, he was owner/operator of Morris Grocery and Café in Emerson. Selling the store to Doug Ferguson in 1994, it became Doug's Place.
Jimmy was an active member of Atco Baptist Church where he served as lead usher for approximately 17 years. He also participated in delivering meals-on-wheels for 10 years. He was a member of Cartersville Lodge #63 F&AM, where he served and is a Past Master, a Past District Deputy, Past Grand Tyler for the State of Georgia as well as serving on the State Board of Relief for three years. He was a member of the Cartersville Chapter #329 Order of Eastern Star and is a Past Patron. Jimmy served as Secretary of the Lodge for 25 years.
Jimmy loved his family dearly and was so proud of his girls. He was a people person. He would strike up a conversation with a total stranger. He always had a compliment for the ladies and picked at the children. They loved it.
Mr. Morris is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lorena Morris, and an infant daughter, Diana Jean Morris.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Angela McMichen Morris; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky Story, Susan Vaughan (Neil), Karen Smith (Kyle III); granddaughters, Heather Huether (Johnny), Meagan and Taylor Vaughan; grandson, Kyle Smith IV (Catherine); great grandchildren, Cheyenne and Ainsley Hilton, James Huether and Addison Smith. Also surviving, a special aunt, Carole Black of Leesburg, Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Reverends Doug Harris and Michael Boatfield officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The Bartow County Sheriff's Office will serve as Honor Guard and the Cartersville Lodge #63 F&AM will be in charge of full Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers are Neil Vaughan, Kyle Smith III, Kyle Smith IV, Howard Howell, Randy Cochran and Garry Cochran.
