James Owens

Mr. James "Buddy" Geston Owens, age 77, of 3 Meadow Lane, Rome, GA, died Saturday, October 15, 2005, in a local hospital.A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mr. Owens was born on September 30, 1928, to the late Clifford E. Owens and Amanda Ashworth Owens. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, a Mason and a member of the Shrine. Mr. Owens took great joy in hunting, fishing, and watching his sons and grandchildren play ball. He was loved and will be missed.Mr. Owens is survived by his wife, Nancy Abrams Owens, to whom he married on August 14, 1949; two sons and their spouses, Steve L. Owens and Laura Martin of Cartersville, GA, and Ronny and Tommie Owens of Rome; five grandchildren, J.J. and his wife, Tonja, Owens of Rome, Loren Owens of Cartersville, Candis Martin of Cartersville, Lindsey Owens and Blake Owens both of Rome; two great-grandchildren, Daly Owens and Bowdon Owens of Rome; and a sister, Margaret Jones of Rome. A niece and nephew also survive.Graveside and interment services for Mr. Owens will be held this (Tuesday) morning October 18, 2005 at 11:00 AM in Rome Memorial Park with J. Parnick Jennings, Sr. and Mr. J.J. Owens officiating. Pallbearers are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:30 AM and include Paul White, J.J. Owens, Blake Owens, Bobby Wood, Pete Gravitt, and Joe Beard.The Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements of Mr. James "Buddy" Geston Owens.
