Mr. James "Jimmy" Malcolm Powell, age 66, of 2 Pine River Road, Rome, GA, died Monday, July 17, 2006, in a local hospital. A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mr. Powell was born on March 8, 1940 to Ruby Gentry Powell and the late Earl Cletus Powell. Mr. Powell attended Pepperell High School but was graduated from high school in California due to enlistment into the armed services. He was a veteran of the United States Army and had served as a Military Police officer. Prior to retirement, Mr. Powell was a manager and owner of a small business and a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was a good businessman, with a strong will for life and commitment to his family. Mr. Powell was known for his wonderful sense of humor, mischief making, and enjoyment of golfing, yard work, and restoring his 1936 Ford Coupe. Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Rita Leigh Trotter Powell of Rome, to whom he married October 25, 1964; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Ronda Powell of Roswell, GA; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Terry Watters of Taylorsville, GA; two grandchildren, Seab Watters of Taylorsville and Lindsey Powell of Roswell; his mother, Ruby Powell of Lindale, GA; and a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Donnice Powell also of Lindale.Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning at 11 A.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Judge Robert Walthers officiating and Michael Mitchell giving the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends this (Wednesday) evening from 6 until 8 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home. At other hours the family will receive at Jimmy and Rita's home.The following gentlemen are asked to serve as active pallbearers and meet at the funeral home on Thursday by 10:30 A.M. and include: Brian Powell, Jay Boiter, Seab Watters, Bill Lindsey, Maurice Martin, and Jerry Watters.Flowers will be accepted and contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society-Floyd County, P.O.
