James Self

June 30, 1940 — June 10, 2022

James Wayne Self, 81, of Cartersville Georgia, passed away on June 10, 2022 at his residence.

Born on June 30, 1940, he is the son of the late Hansel Nandus Self and the late Louvenia Patsy Self. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Emma Nell Self; and a sister, Patty Ely.

Survivors include his son, Jeff Self (Mitch); daughter, Tracy Cowart (Steve); grandchildren, Ben Self, Brianne Hobbs, Amanda Puckett, Tyler Cowart, Johnny Self and Baylee Self; several great grandchildren; brother, Larman Self; and sisters, Sharon Robinson and Carol Holmes.

Mr. Self was a former Bartow County Commissioner, serving 1968 to 1972. During his time as Commissioner, he established the county's water department, sewage department, fire department, and ambulance service. He also worked on Gatewood Parks on Bartow County Beach. After serving as County Commissioner, he re-established his private business, Self Recycling.

A funeral service will be held at 5:00 pm on Monday, June 13, 2022 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with Josh Cowart officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 4:30 pm prior to the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Cowart, Chuck Cowart, Tyler Cowart, Brian Holmes, Stephen Holmes, and Keith Puckett.
