James Harry �Jimmy� Smith, 61, of Rydal passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the Floyd Medical Center. Born August 21, 1948 in Cartersville, he was the son of Winnie Smith and the late James �Junior� Howard Smith, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Eugenia Smith.
Jimmy was a 1966 graduate of Cass High School. He was a highly decorated safe driver with Blue Circle Materials Company. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association. Jimmy was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and attended The Church at Liberty Square.
Jimmy never met a stranger. He loved visiting with family and friends. Jimmy enjoyed joking and storytelling. When he wasn�t working, Jimmy loved fishing, fishing, and more fishing.
Jimmy was the unofficial �community engineer� for Rydal. He was a very intelligent problem-solver and was sought out for advice from many of his friends in the community.
Survivors include his wife, Dee Smith; his son, Brian Smith of Rydal; his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Richard Cash of Adairsville; his step-children, Brian and Susan London of Mobile, Alabama and Allison and Willie Thackston of Kennesaw; his mother, Winnie Smith of Cartersville; his grandchildren, Mason Cash, Caroline Cash, Nick London, Jack London, Mackenzie London, Courtney Thackston, Meagan Thackston, Shannon Thackston, and Hunter Thackston; his sister, Jane Thomas of Adairsville, a special niece, Mirannda Garrett; and his brothers-in-law whom he thought of as brothers, Ken Hefner and Richard Hefner.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Dr. Joe Edwards and Rev. Leroy Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Log Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 � 9 p.m. Friday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
