Mr. James Russell (Dick) Stansell, Sr., age 79, of 306 Alfred Ave., Rome,. GA died Sunday April 25, 2004.Mr. Stansell was born in Floyd County, April 14, 1925, son of the late M.Z. and Ida Victoria Yarbrough Stansell, and had spent his entire life in Floyd County. He was a veteran of WWII serving with both the United States Navy and Marine Corp, and for over 30 years was a member of the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion. For many years he was associated with Burlington Industries. He joined the staff of Savage T.V. & Radio and later became owner and operator of Stansell's T.V. Repair. Mr. Stansell loved fishing, hunting, dove shoots, gardening, camping, and water skiing. His three sons lead him to be a very active father. He was a former president of the Booster Club at Johnson High School. He enjoyed watching his sons play ball, and he had participated in the local basketball leagues. He will be remembered as a very gentle, fun loving, and independent person, and a loving father. He was preceded in death by two brothers, and three sisters.Survivors include; three sons, James Russell Stansell, Jr., and Pamela of Monticello, GA, Edwin Wayne Stansell and Len Leritz of Atlanta, GA, and Dr. Bruce Allen Stansell of Calhoun, GA, One brother, Monte Stansell of Adairsville, GA, three sisters, Rosa Nell Duck and Peggy Wiseman both of Rome, GA and Edna Culberson of Shannon, GA, four grandchildren, James Christopher Stansell, Joshua Lee Stansell, Jena Lee Stansell and Bruce Allen Stansell, II, several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral service for Mr. James Russell (Dick) Stansell, Sr. will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Mizpah United Methodist Church Cemetery.Mr. Stansell will remain at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 AM until time for services.Pallbearers serving include; Harry Bailey, J.D.
