James Tuttle

April 16, 1926 — August 4, 2008

Mr. James H. Tuttle, age 82, of 102 Brittany Lane SE, Rome, GA, passed away Monday, August 4, 2008, in a local hospital.



Mr. Tuttle was born in Crystal Bay, MN on April 16, 1926, the son of the late George Coolidge Tuttle and Mabel Freeman Tuttle. He graduated from Staunton Military School and then later graduated from the University of Maine. Mr. Tuttle served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Clarence K. Bronson in the Pacific. He retired in 1992 as Marketing Manager from the Detroit Edison Company after forty-three years of employment. Mr. Tuttle was an accomplished chef and oeniphile. Also, he loved literature, poetry, music, and his family. Mr. Tuttle served on the Board of Directors for the Rome Symphony Orchestra and was recently elected to the Maplewood East HOA. In addition to his parents Mr. Tuttle is preceded in death by a sister, Helen Tuttle Murdoch.



Mr. Tuttle is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Valerie Tuttle; four children: Elizabeth Wall of Waynesville, NC; James Austin of Ann Arbor, MI; Christopher Austin of Dearborn, MI; and John Austin of Bamberg, Germany; Five grandchildren: Kristen Wall, Rebecca Wall, Julia Austin, Madeline Austin, and Olivia Austin: Two sisters, Betty Lyman of Portland, OR and Anne Reed of Seal Harbor, ME. Many nieces and nephews also survive.



Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at 4:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with family and friends giving the eulogy.



Mr. Tuttle will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 3:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M.



In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the Rome Symphony Orchestra, 21 John Maddox Drive, NW, Rome, GA 30165.
