James "Jimmy" Young

January 17, 1946 — December 29, 2024

James Randolf Young, 78 of Cartersville, left this world peacefully on December 29, 2024.  He was born in Cartersville on January 17, 1946 to Marvin Young and Lillian Shellnut Young.  He is preceded in death by his parents; children James Young Jr. and Jon Young, Sr.; grandchildren James Long and Emily Young; and his precious dog, Ala.

Survivors include his children, Kim (Josh) Brantley, Joseph (Priscilla) Young, and Angela Young; grandchildren Nikki (Steven) Duncan, Jessica Long, Jon (Toni) Young, Kimberly (Devon) Young, James Young, Weldon Young, Brittany (Dewayne) Dickerson, Austin (Stephanie) Young, Christian Young, Brendan (Sierra) Young, Ellie Young, Brynn (Dalton) Fusco and Jonathan Young; and 9 great grandchildren.

James loved God and loved to share how God had changed his life so dramatically.  He enjoyed watching old black and white westerns.  He loved his children and his family.  He often could be heard calling them "cotton picking sissy" or "bratlets." He told his grandchildren that he had been a jet pilot and many other professions that he had not been, but he loved to pick at them and make them all laugh.  He was known to be very convincing with his "stories," even convincing them that cows gave chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla milk depending on the color of the cow.  Apparently, strawberry milk was hard to come by.  His stories and the memory of him will live on through his family, especially in his grandchildren.

The family will be planning a memorial service at a later date and will be announced.

Parnick Jennings Funeral Home & Cremation Services is honored to serve the family of James Randolf Young.
