Janet Cecile Prewett Medlock, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13th, 2026, at the age of 78 in her hometown of Cartersville, GA. Janet was born on Thursday, January 15th, 1948, and from her early beginnings, she touched the lives of everyone she met with warmth, kindness, and an unwavering Christian faith.
Janet shared 59 vibrant years of marriage with her beloved husband, Thomas Wren Medlock. Together they nurtured a loving family, including their cherished daughter, Julie Medlock Hancock. Janet’s nurturing spirit extended to her siblings, as she shared a special bond with her sisters, Barbara Prewett Brown and Vivian Prewett Kelley, as well as her sisters-in-law, Delores Burrell Prewett and Virg Prewett. She will be fondly remembered by her several nieces, nephews, and in-laws, each of whom she held dearly in her heart.
Preceded in death by her father, Ernest Prewett; mother, Lucille Morris; and precious grandchildren, Dylan Wren Conger and Baylee Allyson Conger, Janet now joins her loved ones in eternal rest.
Janet’s journey through life was deeply rooted in her community and her church. As a devout Christian, she found tremendous joy and purpose in the fellowship at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cartersville. In her youth, she enjoyed playing softball at Grove Park Recreation Center. Janet was an alumna of West Fulton High School, where she proudly served as a cheerleader, and South Cobb High School, where she was voted "Friendliest" by her peers. Her love for athletics continued as she supported her daughter Julie’s sporting endeavors. Her professional life saw fulfillment as the owner and operator of Dee’s Florist in Mableton, Georgia, a venture she shared with her sister Barbara. Her commitment to her faith was expressed not only in spirit but through action, as she became a cornerstone of support within the church, participating in numerous activities and establishing the Children's Church Program at Pebblebrook Baptist Church. Janet’s legacy as a pillar of her community is woven through the cherished memories of those whose hearts she touched. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, faith, and community service. Janet was fondly known as the "Cake Lady" at Tabernacle Baptist Church for her delightful contributions to the community's gatherings and events. She was employed at Creative Financial Group where she developed numerous lasting relationships, known for her dedication and generosity of spirit.
A memorial service to celebrate Janet’s life and legacy will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with details to be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled with care by Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Her family invites all who knew her to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who uplifted everyone she met, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and community.
