Jerry Franklin Byrd, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9th, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on Tuesday, August 12th, 1941, in Williamsburg, Kentucky, Jerry was a cherished resident of Cartersville, GA, where he spent the majority of his life surrounded by family and friends.

A dedicated boilermaker, Jerry worked diligently with the Boilermakers Union, where he made a lasting impact with his hard work and dedication. His commitment to his craft was only rivaled by his devotion to his country, having proudly served in the Army for two years.

Jerry was a man of many passions. He loved fishing and was known for his inspiring storytelling, often weaving tales that captivated his audience. A proud Army veteran, Jerry was equally passionate about gardening and animals, and he found great joy in nurturing life in all its forms. His love for his family was evident in the countless cookouts he hosted, where his skills on the grill were second to none.

A devout member of Crowe Springs Baptist Church in Cartersville, Jerry served as the church treasurer for many years, demonstrating his unwavering faith and commitment to his community. His church family, much like his own, was incredibly dear to him. he was also a devoted member of Masonic Lodge #537 in Taylorsville.

Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Sheila Twiggs Byrd; his loving daughter Tara Dawn Byrd Hembree and her husband Brandon; and his niece, Brenna Willis, who was like a daughter to him. He is also survived by his brother Patrick Byrd and his wife Cathy, sister-in-law Joyce Byrd, and the precious children who lovingly called him Paw Paw. He leaves behind numerous special nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John Garrett Byrd and Mary Elizabeth Murray Byrd, and his brothers Richard, Robert, Thomas, Kenneth, and Ted Byrd, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cartersville, GA, on Monday, July 13th, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Crowe Springs Baptist Church at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 14th, 2026. Burial will follow at Emerson City Cemetery. Jerry will be lovingly carried to his resting place by pallbearers Carter Camp, Cody Carter, Cayden Carter, Dustin Sutton, Corey Sutton, and Logan Cole.

Arrangements are provided by Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Jerry Franklin Byrd will be remembered for his love, laughter, and the legacy of kindness he leaves behind.
