Jerry Parker

March 4, 1944 — November 5, 2008

Mr. Jerry Allen Parker, age 64, of 1994 Cave Spring Road SW, Rome, GA, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at his residence.



Mr. Parker was born March 4, 1944, the son of the late Wilburn Parker and Dorothy Pollard Parker-Rainwater. He worked in construction as an insulator. Mr. Parker was a member of the Allied Workers Local #48 Union. He was a member of the Fairburn Masonic Lodge #180 F & AM. Mr. Parker was a member of the Yaarab Shrine Temple. He served in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam War. Mr. Parker was a member of the Shanklin-Attaway Honor Guard Post #5 and served as past commander of the post. Also, he served as past Seventh District Commander for the Georgia Honor Guard and was a member of 40-8.



Mr. Parker is survived by his wife of eleven years, Beverly Stroup Parker; two sons, Marty A. Parker of Central Hatchee, GA and Steven A. Parker of Temple, GA; a step-son, Bruce Mattox of Cedartown, GA; a granddaughter, Sierra Parker of Temple, GA; a brother, Phil Rainwater of Stockbridge, GA; and three sisters, Patricia Rutland of Fairburn, GA, Shirley Hammett of Sharpsburg, GA, and Gail Lang of Locust Grove, GA. Several nieces, nephews, and many special friends also survive.



Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 8, 2008, at 3:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion Honor Guard conducting military rites and serving as pallbearers.



The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home.
