Jerry Thomas Wooten, 63, of Cartersville died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 15, 1946 in Fort Payne, Alabama, he was the son of the late Pete Lee Wooten and the late Elsie Lee Price Wooten. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Talmadge Wooten and Travis Wooten; and his sister, Ilene Barnette.
Jerry was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army. He served from 1967-1968 in Vietnam in the 9th Division, 15th Engineer Battalion which was referred to as �Old Reliable.� Jerry was fondly known in the trucking industry as �Halfbreed� and was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of forty-five years, Marie O�Tinger Wooten; his sons, Allen Jerry Wooten, Kevin Thomas Wooten, and Joseph Lee Wooten, all of Cartersville; his daughters, Karen Marie Wooten of Cartersville and Alysia Kay Ratliff and her husband, Aaron Ratliff of Hoschton, Georgia; his son-in-law, Christopher Michael Britt of Cartersville; his grandchildren, Kayla Nichole Wooten and Billy McKinsey Wooten of Adairsville and Breanna Reese Ratliff of Hoschton, Georgia; his sisters, Zelma Lee Arrington and Esther Elsie Layfield, both of Fort Payne, Alabama; and several nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws, and sister-in-laws.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Adairsville with Rev. Leon Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Britt, Brian Cowart, Michael O�Tinger, Shane Parker, Ben Arrington, and Steven Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Paul Layfield and Breland Van Wooten. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home by 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
The family will receive friends from 5 � 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
