Mr. Jesse Frank �Jack� Welchel, age 93, of Rome, GA, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009.



Mr. Welchel was born in Bartow, GA on June 20, 1915 the son of the late John William Welchel and Ella Jane Hames Welchel. Mr. Welchel worked at Anchor Rome Mill for over 20 years and retired from the O.J.Mills in Calhoun in 1980 . He was the owner and operator of Jack Welchel Barber Shop until 1995. He was the Valedictorian of the 1934 Class from Taylorsville High School and also a graduate of Northwest Georgia Business College. Mr. Welchel was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving with the 332nd Engineers during World War II in the European Theatre operating in England, France, Belgian, Germany and Holland. He was the oldest active member of the Hollywood Baptist Church and the Gary Myers Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents Mr. Welchel was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Lorene Welchel.



Survivors include his son Jackie Wayne Welchel and wife Patricia of Canton, GA; grandson Adam Welchel and wife Ginny of Chattanooga, TN; great-granddaughter, Abby Rae Welchel of Chattanooga, TN; special friend Eunice Smith of Rome, GA Special nieces Nancy Howell and Annell Cox both of Rome, GA and Debbie Abercrombie of Savannah, GA and many nieces and nephews along with great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews also survive.



Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 2, 2009, at 4:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home with Rev. David Harper officiating. Interment will follow in the East View cemetery with Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion in charge of the military graveside rites.



The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home.



The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel on Saturday at 3:30 P.M.: Jack Harris, Richard Keith, Walter Suchite, Edwin Orellana, Adam Welchel, Kenneth Welchel, Willard Earwood, Ray Yarbrough and Johnny Cox Honorary pallbearers include Larry Clements, Nick Abercrombie, deacons and members of the Gary Myers Sunday School Class of the Hollywood Baptist Church.
