Mrs. Jewell Hardy age 71, of Rome, GA, died Friday, August 28, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Hardy was born in Floyd County, GA on January 3, 1938, the daughter of the late William C. Pittard and Susie Youngblood Pittard. She was a member of West Rome Baptist Church for sixty years and was a member of Peace Makers Sunday School Class. Mrs. Hardy retired from the Rome Adult Probation Office in 1990. She was a member of Good Sam Northwest GA RV Club. Mrs. Hardy was an avid fisher, camper, and has traveled all over the world. Also, she enjoyed cooking. In addition to her parents Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Pittard and Frances Swinford and a brother, Leonard Pittard.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Hardy to whom she was married on March 8, 1980; children, David Newman and his wife, Jeannie, Jenny Ward and her husband, Jeff, Terri Snelling and her husband, Jack, Larry Hardy and his wife, Diane, Dianne Brown and her husband, Wayne, Judy Johnson, and Kay Johnson and her husband, Russell; sister, Juanita Horton; fifteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to give a special thanks to her niece, Theresa Murray, who took special care of Jewell during her time of illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, August 31, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. in the West Rome Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Skelton and Rev. Ken Oates officiating. Mrs. Hardy will lie in state at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hardy�s grandsons have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet in the West Rome Baptist Church by 10:30 A.M.: Michael Hardy, Jason Johnson, Josh Johnson, Justin Newman, Stephen Ward, Bradley Boyd, and Ryan Ward. The honorary pallbearers will be the Peace Makers Sunday School Class, Adult Sunday School Department, and the Northwest GA RV Club.
