Joan Owens

It is with great sorrow that the family of Daisy Joan Owens (née Hensley) announce her passing. She passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 3, 2025. Joan was born in Bartow County on May 13, 1948 to Allene Hensley Moates (née Murphy) and Steve Morgan Hensley. She was preceded in death by her parents, twin siblings, first husband, and father of her children, Richard Eugene Owens, and her greatest love and partner of 27 years, John William Oliver. She is survived by three brothers, Willie (PeeWee) Hensley (Tammy), Jesse Hensley and Jimmy Hensley (Wanda), her daughter, Gwendolyn (Gwen) Owens (TJ), her son, Stephen Jeremy Owens, an estranged son, Richard Eugene Owens, Jr., grandchildren, Randi Smith Mullins (Tommy), Rachel J. Calvin, Richard Owens III, Rebekah Owens (Cole Bohannon) and Addalyn Reece (née Owens), great-grandchildren  Patrick Smith, Sophie (Nick) Calvin and Caspian Owens, stepsons John Oliver (Bobbie), and Richie Oliver (Ann). Surviving also are a host of nieces, nephews, great- and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and family members of her heart whom she welcomed into her family throughout her life.

Joan worked for 37 years for Tumlin Family Dentistry, formerly Terry N. Tumlin, D.M.D., P. C. Though she made mistakes as we all do, she tried to live her life with grace and dignity, and she will be sorely missed. Dr. Tumlin said it best of her with these words, "It will take me a long time to process this loss. I spent more time around Joan for 37 years than anyone, during waking hours, and I had to trust in her to always do the right thing. And as far as I could tell, she always did, in every part of her life."

The family requests your presence at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Chapel as we honor her life. We will receive visitors on Friday, August 15th from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service begins on Sunday August 17th at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Keith Willard officiating.
