Mrs. JoAnn Gayton King, 76, of Cartersville, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 19, 1938 in Bartow County, the daughter of the late Silas Jackson Gayton and Alma Segars Gayton.
Mrs. King was a member of Cloverleaf Missionary Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Ricky Wrena King.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Joe V. King of Cartersville; her daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly King Poe and husband, Richard of Cartersville and Kerri Michelle Knowles and husband, Kevin of Emerson; a sister, Peggy Gayton Allen of Shelby, NC; and her grandchildren, Kaylin S. Poe, Lauren J. Cornwell, Madison B. Poe and Wesley D. Cornwell all of Cartersville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Cloverleaf Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Justin Gazaway officiating. Interment will follow in Oakhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 5 – 8 p.m. at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home. Mrs. King will be carried to the church on Thursday to lie-in-state for one hour prior to the service.
