Joe Dillard, Sr.

Mr. Joe Dean Dillard, Sr. age 73, of 39 Elm Wood Street, Rome, GA, died Thursday, November 15, 2007, in a local hospital.

Mr. Dillard was born in Floyd County, GA, on November 23, 1933, the son of the late Henry "Frank" Dillard and Omanell Hicks Dillard. He worked for B&S Construction until he became ill. Mr. Dillard enjoyed playing his guitar, fishing, riding horses, and playing horseshoes. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dillard is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Chastain Dillard; a daughter, Linda Beth Johnson; a brother, Robert Allen Dillard; and a sister, Ruby Montague.

Mr. Dillard is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Debra Dillard of Cedartown, GA; a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Dale Penson of Kingston, GA; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Eloise Dillard of Warner Robins, GA; and three sisters, Ruth Sharp of Rome, Shirley Smith of Villa Rica, GA, and Faye Padgett of Villa Rica, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 19, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Penson and Rev. Donald Lindsey officiating. Interment will follow in the Floyd Memory Gardens.

Mr. Dillard will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home on Monday by 10:30 A.M.: Luke Green, Derrick Turner, Dannie Kelley, Matt Warren, Mark Pegg, and Eddie Smith.
