Joel Eugene Pickel, 57, of Cartersville passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the Cartersville Medical Center. Born April 1, 1952 in Cartersville, he was the son of Nelle Mulkey Pickel and the late Mark Joseph Pickel.
Joel was a graduate of Cass High School, Class of 1970. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and watching baseball and football. Joel was also employed by Georgia Power Company at Plant Bowen.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Audrey Davenport Pickel of Cartersville; his sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Loretta Pickel and their daughter, Tara Pickel, of Taylorsville, Shane and Lisa Pickel and their children, Kristen Pickel, Kayla Baker and Tonya and Josh Davis of Cartersville, Kyle and Shannon Pickel and their daughter, Abigail Pickel, of Taylorsville; his great-grandchildren, Gabe Baker and Matthew Davis; his mother, Nelle Pickel of Cartersville; and his brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Karen Pickel and their children, Kaitlyn and Levi Pickel of Cartersville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2009 at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Duval and Rev. Paul Battles officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Ledford, Gary Davenport, Mike Copeland, Donnie Copeland, Jerry Prewett, William Pickel, Michael Davenport, and Eddie Davenport. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home by 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 9 p.m. Thursday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Friendship Baptist Church Building Fund, Cassville Road, Cartersville, GA 30120.
