Mr. John Henry Brownlow, Jr. age 77, of 432 Flat Rock Road, Rome, GA, died May 29, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Brownlow was born in Floyd County, GA, on October 27, 1930, the son of the late John Henry Brownlow, Sr. and Lillian Hazelwood Brownlow. Mr. Brownlow was a life member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church where he served on the board of deacons. Mr. Brownlow worked for Trusdell Trucking Company for eighteen years and then in 1965 he owned and operated his own trucking company for twelve years. Prior to his retirement he was employed with Floyd County for ten years. He was a member of the Coosa Masonic Lodge #622 for over fifty years and was a member of the Low Twelve Club. Mr. Brownlow was a good Christian father and loved his family, his church, and gospel music.
Mr. Brownlow is survived by his wife, Dorothy Simpson Brownlow to whom he was married, May 22, 1948; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Debbie Brownlow of Rome and Dale and Ruby Brownlow of Rome; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Willie Mae Sargent of Gaylesville, AL and Betty Lou Bohannon of Alexis, AL. A special niece, Debbie Hall also survives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Collum and Rev. Danny Roberson, and a son, Jerry Brownlow giving the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Brownlow will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Friday and at other hours will be at the residence 432 Flat Rock Road, Rome, GA.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Heyman Hospice in care of Floyd Medical Center, P.O. Box 163, Rome, GA 30162.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home on Saturday by 1:30 P.M.: Scott Brownlow, Joe Foss, Greg Lemaster, Shannon Cordle, Shane Cordle, David Kirkland, Eric Hall, and Blake Puckett. The honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
