John Hambrick

June 22, 1930 — April 11, 2016

Mr. John William Hambrick, age 85, of Cartersville, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 at his residence. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia on June 22, 1930, he was the son of the late Hezekiah Hambrick and Laura Warden Hambrick.

Mr. Hambrick was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Johnny Hambrick; his grandson, Andrew John Pate; and his brother, H.C. Hambrick, Jr.

The man, the legend, who built the Dublin Band located in middle Georgia, into one of the greatest high school bands in the nation, has passed away. Mr. Hambrick, a member of the International Band Masters Hall of Fame, performed in the Festival of States, St. Petersburg, and the Orange Bowl Parade. Hambrick had 30 years of experience in education, including teaching positions at Jeff Davis High School, Commerce High School, and Dublin High School. He was assistant superintendent of the Laurens County Schools, principal of Charlton High, Cass High, and Emerson Elementary Schools, and superintendent of the Charlton County Schools.
Towards the end of his administrative career he was Vice President of North Metro Technical College; currently known as Chattahoochee Technical College; North Metro campus. Other memorable accomplishments include supervision of the construction of Mission Road Elementary and interim superintendent of the Bartow County Schools. His honors include the Liberty Bell Award from the Dublin Bar Association and honorary membership in the Future Homemakers of America and the Future Business Leaders of America.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Snow Hambrick; his children, Norma Pate and husband, Jim, Gwen Webster and husband, Rob, Beth Pryor and husband, Alan, and Bob
Hambrick and wife, Cindy; nineteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; thee nephews and one niece.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with Bishop Mark Fleming officiating. Interment will follow in the Cassville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Sean Dailey, Brian Pate, Charlie Cumbee, Kevin Pate, Stephen Hambrick, Clark Cumbee and Matthew Pryor.
