John �J.T.� Harrison, 87, of Cartersville died Wednesday, March 3, 20l0 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born February 2, 1923 in Lyons, Georgia, he was the son of the late Dewey Thomas Harrison and the late Rosa Lee Thompson. He was also preceded in death by his son, Larry Thomas Harrison, Sr. who died while serving his country in Vietnam; and his sister, Irene Outler.
J.T. started out farming in South Georgia before moving to Atlanta. He worked for Danny Thompson for seventeen years and Capital Ford for seventeen years and then went to work as a diesel mechanic with the Mail Carriers of America. J.T. enjoyed working so much that he did not retire until he was 78 years old, and then he only retired because of his health.
Part of America�s greatest generation, J.T. was a veteran of the United States Army. He served in the 186th Ordnance Company in the European Theatre at Normandy and Rhineland and received four battle stars. J.T. was also a member of Northside Park Baptist Church and loved gospel music.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Janel Love Harrison of Cartersville; his children and their spouses, Jan and Terry Hawkins of Alpharetta, Donald and Tonya Harrison of Dallas, Ronald and Frances Harrison of Dallas, and Cindy and Jay Phillips of Cartersville; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many special family friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Vince Smith and Rev. Steve Kemp officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by the American Legion Carl Boyd Post #42 will follow at Georgia National Cemetery. J.T.�s grandsons will serve as pallpearers.
