John Frank Lutz of Cartersville, GA died on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 1:01 am in Woodstock, GA. He was 78.
Born on June 26, 1945 in Springfield, IL, the son of John H. and Sydney C. (Baldry) Lutz, he married Joan Carol Delost on August 21, 1965 in Canton, IL. He and wife Joan lived in Joliet, IL for many years before moving to Georgia in 2016.
In addition to his parents John is preceded in death by his wife Joan and sister Mary Anne Jones. Survivors include daughter Amy of Canton, GA; sister Katherine of Espanola, NM; sister Susan, of Decatur, GA; brother Sidney of Scottsdale, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam as a corporal from 1968 to 1970.
John worked in road and bridge construction in the Chicago, IL area his entire career. He was extremely handy around the house, and enjoyed completing home improvement and gardening projects invented by his wife, who was an interior designer and expert gardener. He loved hunting and fishing and all things outdoors. He had a strong work ethic - some might call him a workaholic - but he was also a jokester, and loved telling stories and making people laugh. His disarming and goofy sense of humor endeared him to all who knew him. He was a devout Catholic and parishoner at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Cartersville, GA.
He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2020. Even as the disease progressed he remained devoted to his wife, always wanting to help her around the house and looking to her for love, guidance and support.
A service will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery on Friday, February 16 at 11:30 am. There will be a procession from Parnick Jennings Funeral Home, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville, GA beginning promptly at 10:30 am.
