John Peyton

John Louis Peyton, Sr., 83, of Cartersville passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 at Cartersville Medical Center.

Born in Hinesville, Georgia on November 28, 1929 he was the son of the late William Peyton and the late Netherae Lois Bell Peyton. Mr. Peyton served his country in the National Guard and later went on to be a Regional Service Technician for International Harvester. He also held an honorary degree from Clemson University. Mr. Peyton was a true renaissance man who was known to say "if I can't fix it, it's not broken". John L., better known as Peyton, was a diehard Falcons and Braves fan. He will be remembered for his optimism and outstanding attitude in all situations. With him the cup was always half full. Peyton loved his family and was always a great man to talk to.

Survivors include his wife, Marcelene Powell Peyton; his children, Tracie Peyton Powell, Alan Peyton, Lee Peyton Epperson, Mechelle Peyton Lund and Johnny Louis Peyton, Jr.; his grandchildren, Jenna Powell, Mark Alan Epperson, Loralee Powell, Jeremy Peyton, Bowen Epperson, Taylor Epperson, John Louis "Trey" Peyton III, Luke Powell, Caleb Lund and Aspen Peyton; his sisters, Virginia Ford and Diane Busbee; and his brother, Allison Peyton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2013 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
