John Walter Lane, Sr., 77, of Cartersville passed away Thursday, December 17, 2009 at his residence. Born July 6, 1932 in Fries, Virginia, he was the son of the late Buster Gordon Lane and the late Sarah Annie Haynes Lane. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Smith Lane; and his grandson, Davin Lane.
Mr. Lane was a veteran of the United States Army who served during the Korean Conflict. He had been employed over the years as a coater foreman with Five Star Finishers, Benchmark, and Lacey Mills. Mr. Lane was also a member of Rowland Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, John W. Lane, Jr. (Rocky) and Carol Lane of White, Ronny and Gayla Lane of Cartersville, and Keith Lane of Cartersville; his daughter, Debbie Thornton of Cartersville; his grandchildren and their spouses, Eric and Beth Lane, Trudi and Charles �Chuck� Evans, Julie and Chris Bowley, Sarah Lane, Savanna and Austin Wyatt, and Stuart Lane; his great-grandchildren, Britta Lane, Lucas Lane, Ashton Lane, Colton Evans, Ethan Evans, Lindsey Evans, Hayden Bowley, and Kadence Wyatt; his sisters and brother-in-law, Martha and Robert Pearman and Dorothy Mallory, all of Ivanhoe, Virginia; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Rowland Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Joe Ringwalt officiating. Mr. Lane will lie in state at the church beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends from 4 � 8 p.m. Friday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
