John Veltre Sr

John J. Veltre, Sr., 89, of Cartersville passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at the Cartersville Medical Center. Born November 29, 1919 in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Isaiah Veltre and the late Mary Prosceno Veltre. He was also preceded in death by his son, Robert William Veltre, sisters, Elizabeth Piviniski, Josephine Piviniski, Linda Ciccone, Joanne Kane, and a brother Anthony Isaiah Veltre, Jr.



John was the owner and operator of John�s Plumbing and Heating and was known as �John the Plumber.� He was a people person and loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and playing golf. As a testimony to his life his family credited him as being a great husband and family man. John was a 50 year member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge along with The Morocco Temple and the Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the Cartersville First Presbyterian Church and was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Air Force.



Survivors include his wife of 64 years, LaNelle Gentry Veltre; his son and daughter-in-law, John Joseph Veltre Jr. and Paz Veltre of Acworth; a daughter Kathy Veltre Thomas of Cartersville; his sisters, Concetta Blunt, and Annie Nash of Delaware; his brother, Francis Veltre; grandchildren, John Joseph Veltre III and his wife Adrienne, of New York City, Christy Thomas and Misty Thomas of Doraville, Leslie Veltre of Kennesaw, Star Veltre of Woodstock, Jake Veltre of Acworth, and Cindy Veltre, Robert�s widow, and a host of nieces and nephews.



Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2009 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Reverend Keith Dempsey officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be, John Joseph Veltre III, Jake Veltre, Butch Conner, Donald Conner, Jack Conner, and Bobby Huskins. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:15 p.m. on Saturday.



The family will receive friends from 6 � 9 p.m. Friday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
