Mr. Johnnie Lester Potts, age 70, of 8-A Fountain Square, Rome, GA, the Garden Lakes community, died Friday evening, August 20, 2004, in a Rome hospital.Mr. Potts was born in Chattooga County, GA, on August 20, 1934, the son of the late Grady Lester Potts and Annie Ruth Howell Potts, and had lived most of his life in Rome and Floyd County. Mr. Potts was a member of the Cathedral of Praise Church of God, and was music director for several Baptist churches for a number of years. He was employed by Inland Paperboard and Packaging for a period of 21 years prior to his retirement and for five years with J.C. Penney.Mr. Potts is survived by his wife, Barbara Maxene Brock Potts, to whom he was married on May 14, 1955; two sons, Michael Potts and John Potts, both of Rome; three daughters, Phyllis Vice, Angela Stover and Wendy Huckaby, all of Rome; two brothers, Bobby Potts of Rome and Eddie Potts of Statesboro, GA; one sister, Sue Barton of Mableton, GA. Ten grandchildren also survive.Funeral services for Mr. Potts will be held on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Carver officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.Mr. Potts will lie in-state at the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the residence, 8-A Fountain Square.Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Monday by 3:30 p.m. and include Chad Potts, Mike Stover, Blake Anglea, Gary Huckaby, Carl Vice and Harold Murphy.The Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements for the funeral of Mr. Johnnie Lester Potts.
