Mr. Joseph Wayne Cannon, age 71, of 203 Cherry Street, Rome, GA, died Friday, August 29, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Cannon was born September 20, 1936, the son of the late Homer Cannon and Eleanor Wright Cannon. He retired from G.E. in 1995 after thirty-eight years of service as an automatic core line operator. Mr. Cannon was a member of the Cherokee Masonic Lodge #66 F&M. In addition to his parents Mr. Cannon was preceded in death by a brother, Homer Lavoy Cannon, Jr.; a sister, Barbara June Cannon, and a brother-in-law, Charles Casey.
Mr. Cannon is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Mary Frances Cannon of Rome; two daughters, Sherry Tapp, and Pam Brock both of Rome; four grandchildren, Davy Brock, Sara Ridley, Rachael Starling, and Joseph Tapp; five great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Marsha Cannon; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Chloe and Charles Dollar, Teresa Casey, and Joyce and Louis Nieto. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Cherokee Masonic Lodge F. &M. #66 conferring Masonic rites.
The family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home by 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday: Joseph Tapp, Pete Ware, Gordon Scoggins, Jr., Terry Brown, Chris Fowler, Randy Dollar, Chuck Wingate and Kyle Cannon. Honorary pallbearers will include: Gordon Scoggins III, P.J. Crawford, Rodney Davis, Bobby Bollinger, Howard Touchstone, Rocky Casey, and Hobart Money.
