Mr. Joseph D. �Joe� Myer, age 88, of Rome, GA died Saturday, October 25, 2009, in a local hospital.
Mr. Myer was born in Cherokee County, AL on January 7, 1921, the son of the late Dedrich Myer and Cora Edge Myer. He retired from Fox Manufacturing Furniture Company and was a long time member of North Rome Church of God. Mr. Myer served in the United States Army Airforce during World War II. He received the Distinguish Flying Cross Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, and EAMET Ribbon with three bronze stars. Mr. Myer was a member of the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion. In addition to his parents Mr. Myer was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Myer; a grandson, Shannon Williams; brother, Fred Myer; and a brother, Bruna Myer.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Patricia Myer of Lake City, FL; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and B.T. Williams of Cartersville, GA; two grandchildren, Tara Strickland and Shawn Williams; six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roland and Ella Ween Myer of Cedar Bluff, AL, Bobby and June Myer of Powder Springs, GA, Billy and Rudene of Kennesaw, GA, and Homer and Vennice Myer of Fort Payne, AL; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan and Gary Burt of Fort Payne, AL, Melba Carruth of Austell, GA, Nina Butler of Centre, AL, and Jane and Tony White of Birmingham, AL.
A Celebration of Life for Mr. Myer will be held Thursday, October 29, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Pastor Harold Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens and the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour in the Oaknoll Chapel.
