J.R. Blackmon

April 19, 1925 — March 16, 2008

J.R. Blackmon, 82, of 48 Main St., Kingston, died on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Cartersville Medical Center. Born April 19, 1925 in Polk County, he was the son of the late James Harper Blackmon and the late Lillie Debbie Ingram Blackmon. J.R. was a member of First Born Church of God in Summerville. He loved his family very much, and enjoyed gospel singing, cowboy movies, wrestling, and rabbit hunting.

J.R. was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Mary Jane and Debra Blackmon; three grandsons, Hank Blackmon, James Ray Lee, and Sonny James Hilliard; one granddaughter, Lillie Michelle Lee; and two brothers, Thomas and Alvin Blackmon.

Survivors include his wife Geneva Blackmon of Kingston; two sons, Jimmy Ray Blackmon of Kingston and Sonny James Blackmon of White; five daughters, Betty Ann Hilliard of Adairsville, Darlene Ensley of Calhoun, Lillie Lee of Cartersville, Charlotte Woods of Cartersville, and Wanda Blackmon of Hiram; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; four brothers, L.G. Blackmon of Summerville, Johnny Blackmon of Summerville, James Blackmon of Pennville, and Ricky Blackmon of Cartersville; four sisters, Shirley Kiser of Trion, Bonnie Blackmon, Ruby Reed, and Jeanette Peppers, all of Pennville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Glenn Dukes and Rev. Charles Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the Kingston Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Clinton Lee, Charles Lee, Shane Blackmon, Chris Blackmon, Eric Blackmon, Shawn Blackmon, Dennis Woods, and Kevin Woods. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home by 2:15 p.m. on Thursday.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2008 and from 12 – 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
