Julia Griffin Allen was born in New Bern, North Carolina on November 8, 1909. She was the daughter of Fred Graham Mitchell and Ida Latham Quidley Mitchell. Mrs. Allen att3nded Campbell College in North Carolina. In 1943, she was employed by Retail Credit Company (Equifax) until her retirement as Assistant to Manager of Credit Research and Development Division in Atlanta, GA.Mrs. Allen's involvement in civic and social activities was an important part of her life. She was active in organizations including the Atlanta Women's Chamber of Commerce, Rich's Women's Board, College Park Women's Club and Music Club. She served as Chairperson of various committees in the Georgia Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs. She served in state offices and as State President in 1965-66. Mrs. Allen was a trustee of the Rosalind McCormick Foundation and Chairman of the Board. For over 10 years she served as a member of the Auxiliary of South Fulton Hospital.Julia Griffin Allen was an active member of the College Park First United Methodist Church, was a member of the administrative Board, a Sunday School teacher and class officer as well as chairman of circles in the United Methodist Women organization. She was especially proud of her church work all through her life.Since moving to Rome, Georgia in 1994 she has been a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and Member of the Circle of Concern Administrative Board and the Senior Citizens active group the "Rah-Rah"s. Until the end of her life, she was a member of AARP and of the Top of Georgia Airstream Club and the Good Sam's Club. She and her husband traveled extensively and with great joy in these clubs. Mrs. Allen's final camping experience at the age of 95 was with her many friends in the Good Sam's Club.Julia Griffin Allen was twice married. First to F.M. Griffin (Grif) in 1946 until his death in 1972. She then married Thomas H. Allen in 1988. She is survived by Mr. Allen, a sister Eliza Arnold of New Bern, NC and her step daughter, Annette Allen Garriga Cook and her husband Charles W. Cook, Jr. of Villa Rica, GA. Step grandchildren include Kyle Garriga of Americus, Ga., Jon Voiselle, Jr. of Wilmington, NC., Matt Mathis of Rome, GA, Mindy Surrett of Cartersville, GA., Missy Davidson of Roswell, GA., Bryan Hinton, Cindy Potts, David Hinton of North Carolina.Julia will be missed by her family and many friends.Funeral services for Mrs. Allen will be held at 11:00 am, Friday morning at the Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. David Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am until the service hour.Interment will be held in West View Cemetery in Atlanta, GA at 3:30 pm Friday afternoon with Rev.
